RELIABLE history of tanning?

I'm writing a research paper on indoor tanning and it's effects and would like to begin with talking about the Egyptians possibly and how tan was a symbol of being a laborer vs. wealthy and Coco Chanel starting the tanning trend. What are some RELIABLE sources (like scholarly works or .gov websites)??? HELP !!!
