I have these old style speakers... Can i use them with newer systems?

I have these old speakers and the only way to connect them is the wire coming out of the back and striped at the end. How would i connect that to say my ipod or laptop or some sort of headphone jack? Could i just take a headphone jack and connect the two wires?
