I am a Canadian Citizen and I need to get an ABN number in Australia. Being Canadian am I able to get one?

I am a Canadian Citizen and I need to get an ABN. Being Canadian am I able to get one? I will also be applying as a labourer. I find it pretty confusing applying and can't figure it out but apparently my boss says I can get one. I already have my tax file number and work visa so maybe that will help? Any help I could get on this would be great, thanks in advance!
